Japanilainen sähkölaitetoimittaja ja teollisuuskonserni Sumitomo Corporation työskentelee japanilaisen sähköyhtiön Shikoku Electric Powerin ja singaporelaisen aurinkokehittäjä Sunseapin kanssa aurinkovoimahankkeiden kehittämiseksi Japanissa sähkönostosopimuksen puitteissa.

Kolmea yhtiötä operoi yhteisyritys, Sun Trinity LLC, joka tuo aurinkoenergiaa suurille sähkönkäyttäjille neljällä eri kahdenvälisellä sopimuksella.

One of the three options the consortium has offered is an on-site PPA, which sells electricity to customers through installations operated by Sun Trinity on rooftops and other locations of electricity customers. The second option includes off-site PPAs, through which the joint venture sells electricity to the buyer from a solar farm located off the consumer's premises and feeds it into the grid.

In a press release, Sumitomo stated, "The company can leverage Sumitomo and Shikoku Electric's long-standing expertise in the power business, as well as a range of related business infrastructures we have built in Japan over the years, while also leveraging Sunseap in solar power generation. world-class capabilities in engineering design and associated equipment procurement."

According to current regulations in Japan, corporate PPAs must have power companies involved, with the exception of on-site PPAs, where both physical and virtual forms of PPA are allowed. In a brick-and-mortar PPA, the electricity buyer pays the generator a fixed fee through the retailer, including "packaging" and management fees.
