The city council of the U.S. capital Tashkent recently passed a resolution to allocate 39 billion soums (about 34.48 million dollars) from the city and district budgets to install solar panels in 1,063 public institutions such as kindergartens, primary and secondary schools and hospitals in the city.
In addition, the state budget will provide 25.6 billion sum (approximately US$2.26 million) in the form of loans to 40 state institutions, including district governments, prosecutors' offices and internal affairs agencies in Tashkent, for the installation of solar panels on the roofs of buildings. The expenditure is scheduled to be repaid gradually by the Tashkent city budget in 2023-2024.
Earlier, on 16 February, President Mirziyoyev signed a presidential decree on accelerating the introduction of new energy sources and energy-saving technologies, which will require the installation of solar panels on at least 50 per cent of unused space on the roofs of high-rise residential buildings as of 1 May 2023.
